E.C.S. – A HISTORY OF GREAT IDEAS

E.C.S. was founded in 1970. It was the brainchild of Carlo Del Grosso, who is in fact the father of the first Italian Numerical Control (NC). This Control was created in 1962, and was used in machine tools of various types, winning widespread praise during the many years it was on sale.

The company, with Mr. Del Grosso as its Managing Director from the very start, had the aim of designing, making, installing and servicing controls for machine tools. The new controls designed at E.C.S. were based on dedicated computers, developed specifically for the new needs and new programs that were unable to express their full potential with the machines available at that time. These were based on obsolete technology that did not allow machining speeds up to the standards requested by designers and the needs of a market that already had great expectations and requirements.

The idea, which was unique at that time, was to achieve great versatility in the management of the controls, and in their adaptation for various types of machining operations: in this way, merely by changing the software, it was possible to transform an NC capable of managing boring machines, milling machines or lathes, into one that could be used with other processing machines. This was the true innovation that allowed the company to unite production, testing and maintenance, with considerable economic benefits and streamlining of its operational management.

Consequently, the success of E.C.S. Numerical Controls is due to the fact that they can be updated and their range of operation extended, even after they have been in use for years. In short, they have always been manufactured so as to have an exceptionally long working life.

Over the years the company grew, becoming an absolute leader on the Italian market and a great innovator in the sector as a whole. The ownership changed several times, increasing the company’s growth until it reached the current situation: a big relaunch in the hands of Italian-Swiss businessmen who, with great long-sightedness and optimism, have once more taken steps to invest in the future and provide services and continuity for the large numbers of customers who are still contentedly using E.C.S. controls today.

Diego Corbella, the new Managing Director of E.C.S. and head of the new management, has planned a relaunch of the company and has carefully reviewed the entire company organisation, introducing new parameters aimed at enhancing the knowledge and experience of staff.
